Samsung said yesterday it is establishing a research foundation next month with a budget of 1.5 trillion won ($1.35 billion) over 10 years with a view to spearhead technology development in the areas of basic science, materials engineering, and information and communications technology (ICT) projects. The goal is to help produce Korea’s first Nobel Prize winner in science.
Samsung will earmark 300 billion won for the foundation for this year and another 450 billion won will be funded from 2014 through 2017. After going through a replenishing process, an additional 750 billion won will be granted over the following five years.
The Samsung Research Foundation will support commercialization of some research results should they show the business potential. The basic premise, though, is that R&D results belong to the researchers, thus encouraging them to do their best. The foundation will make a public notification of the programs next month, accept applications by July and start providing funds in November.

Samsung unveils new initiatives in software
Two days after unveiling blueprints to boost the country’s basic science and research efforts, Samsung yesterday announced it would earmark 170 billion won ($152.5 million) for five years to foster software experts.
As an initial step, the top conglomerate with the world’s No. 1 smartphone producer under its wing will pick and train 10,000 university students - both engineering majors and nonengineering majors - to become software workers. The initiative will be effective from this year till 2017.
The group will also found a so-called junior software academy to run programs to teach 40,000 elementary, middle and high school students about software - and encourage them to go into the field.
Samsung also plans to hire over 2,000 new workers devoted to software starting this year, up more than 30 percent from last year. That way, it will have employed over 10,000 entry-level software experts by 2017.

Надоело им с индусами мурыжиться, видимо. Вообще всё правильно делают: пока есть деньги их надо в людей вкладывать. Мало кто это реализует в мире.Libra писал(а):Samsung unveils new initiatives in software

Всё правильно, тем более, что иначе они быстро кончатся.seepooha писал(а):Надоело им с индусами мурыжиться, видимо. Вообще всё правильно делают: пока есть деньги их надо в людей вкладывать. Мало кто это реализует в мире.Libra писал(а):Samsung unveils new initiatives in software
Рынок штука изменчивая, лидеры приходят и уходят. Сейчас у корейцев золотой век, но где они будут лет через 10 - очень большой вопрос.

Вот и LG подтянулась
LG to award W400 bil. contracts to SMEs
LG Group said Monday that it will award 400 billion won ($357 million) worth of contracts to smaller firms, in a bid to support the so-called shared growth initiative spearheaded by President Park Geun-hye and her administration.
The group also decided to invest a total of 3.2 trillion won to build a cutting-edge software development center in Magok, western Seoul, by 2020, up from an original 2.4 trillion won investment.
The move comes as part of the group’s efforts to support the government’s policies to support a creative economy and ensure co-growth between large firms and SMEs.
The government has placed top priority on creating new business chances and more jobs by combining information and communication technologies with the cultural and other sectors.
“We are ready to match President Park Geun-hye’s creative economy drive. The latest investment will help grow the local software industry,” group spokeswoman Kim Min-jeong said Monday.
“We will ask the Seoul Metropolitan Government to allow us to buy more land to build a bigger complex. We will invest 800 billion won more for the project by 2020 and the total research staff will be increased to 30,000 from the previous 20,000 after the complex opens,” said the spokeswoman Kim.
In a related note, Samsung earlier said it will invest a total of 1.5 trillion won over the next 10 years to establish a new unit to develop patents for next-generation technologies.
The Samsung Future Technology Foundation will focus on developing materials, hardware and industry convergence-related technology.
